The ferret has been reunited with it’s family. The power of craigslist has returned Rose to it’s very happy owner and ferret sister. Just in the nick of time too. Little bugger dropped two deuces in the kitchen and was on his way to swimming lessons when the Batphone rang. The universe has now been returned to it’s rightful order.

Ferret Found.
May 22nd, 2008
Ok, here is this weeks random story. My friend Amy was giving me a ride home last night. We came to the intersection of 33rd and Webster in NE and we saw this mini van slowly following what appeared to be a rat. On closer look it was a ferret. The dude in the car jumped out and got the little bugger as we sat there and watched. In true Oregonian fashion, Holmes starts walking over to us with the ferret. He explains that he can’t take him because he has two huge dogs in his car.
After much deliberation, we go get a box at the market and take him with us. I live next to an animal hospital and thought they could help. The folks were nice at the hospital, but did not rectify our situation with the ferret. The ferret has spent the night in my kitchen in an animal cage the neighbors had. Cute little guy, but he is still a varmint.
Hence the question is, Does any one want a rat?
I don’t.
I do have a bag though.
Sing it with me.”The varmints in the bag and the bags in the river.”

Sharing the Good

So a month or so back I wrote an email to the Heineken group at work. I had an idea for something fun that we could do as a project for the account. We could get these traditional Dutch cargo bikes, style them out to be full blown Heineken bikes and use them things here in bike crazed Portland. With Summer knocking on the doors it might be a nice way for people to get out of the office and run some errands around town. Skip ahead to now and we have countless ideas of things we could do with the bike. Even to just people asking questions and blurting out what if’s is a good thing.

Still undecided if running over x-girlfriends with the bike is exactly Sharing the Good.

Portland Platinum?
April 30th, 2008
Portland Oregon was awarded the Platinum status by the League of American Bicyclists. According to them this makes Portland the mark of excellence for which all large cities in America should try to emulate for bicycle education, safety, infrastructure and improvements. This is a great thing for Portland, but it makes me seriously shudder that Portland is the role model of excellence. The state of affairs in all other American cities must be absolutely horrendous. Portland may give a damn about their cycling activism, but we are a long, long way from anything that could be considered reasonable for cycling anywhere. Home to the absolute worst drivers I have come across anywhere in the world, Portland is far from a state of educated drivers and cyclists. I guess it’s a cute award to make folks feel better about riding in shit weather 9 months out of the year. As far as role model status, I think not.
